Video poker can be viewed as a combination of two games - poker and slots; the external appearance is similar to that of the slot machines, thus it is not uncommon for many individuals to mistake one for the other at times. The 'brain' of the video poker machine and what is actually displayed on screen, has everything however to do with poker. The fact that you are here to learn to play video poker is a testament to the fact that video poker has become a favorite among many gamblers, mainly because it is one of few games where the expectation of winning is in fact positive. It is also a casino game where skill and knowledge are recognized (and rewarded). Video poker does involve a bit of luck (for example, being dealt a good hand), however the game is largely dependent on how well you play.

An important step in the process of learning to play video poker is to understand video poker hands. As you play video poker, you will quickly understand that there are several card combinations that can result in a win for you.
